What is Aavegotchi?

Aavegotchi is an NFT collectible project that has grown to incorporate elements of decentralized finance (DeFi), asset staking, land ownership, and blockchain gaming.

Today, the team regularly releases updates and new releases, which maintains the dapp in the top positions of DappRadar Rankings.

Initially introduced as a GameFi NFT project, Aavegotchi has grown to become an entire ecosystem where users can play various games, earn rewards and put their land to use.

Playing with the Aavegotchis NFTs

Aavegotchis are the main characters that populate the entire ecosystem. They are players’ entry ticket to the game and are the medium through which everyone participates in the ecosystem. Without an Aavegotchi, you can still play in the Gotchiverse, either as a visitor or with a rented avatar. But certain events, like Rarity Farming, require a user to hold their own Aavegotchi. You can get them in the Aavegotchi marketplace, the Baazaar.

Also referred to as Gotchis, these NFTs are ghost-like critters that need consistent care. “Petting” your Gotchi every 12 hours increases your level of kinship with the ghost. This then improves your level of Alchemical Channeling, which is when players receive a daily stipend of Gotchus Alchemica.

Clothing your Aavegotchi with Equipment increases its rarity, increasing your chances in the rarity farming events.

With their Gotchi, players can travel around the map and collect rewards. This is known as a Playdrop and is weekly event Pixelcraft Studios uses to keep players engaged.

How to play Aavegotchi

The Aavegotchi gameplay is directly connected to its virtual world, the Gotchiverse, but also expands to a variety of games from different genres.

In the Gotchiverse, players can move around freely, search for Alchemica rewards, and fight for rewards in the Aarena. If you own a parcel of land in Gotchiverse, you can also become a farmer and harvest some Alchemica tokens. Pixelcraft has announced it will launch more gameplay functionalities and expand the user experience as a whole.

After funding your wallet with GHST and MATIC, you can connect it to the Aavegotchi dapp, which allows you to purchase an Aavegotchi NFT. If you want to experience the game before buying a Gotchi NFT, that’s also possible. You can borrow an Aavegotchi and even play for free through the Gotchi Lending program.

Aavegotchi Game Center

Launched in September 2023, the Aavegotchi Game Center is a hub for all games built on the Aavegotchi universe. It reminds you of Steam and Epic Games Store, but with Aavegotchi’s charm and grace.

This is the place to go if you’re looking for your next adventure, such as Gotchiverse 2D and Gotchi Heroes, where your Gotchis must fight monsters to survive. Upcoming games in Aavegotchi’s Game Center include The Sandbox Aavegotchi Experience and an anticipated and yet mysterious mobile game, Gotchi Guardians.

Pixelcraft Studios is currently testing and developing Gotchiverse’s latest version – Gotchiverse 3D, and soon, the community will get to play and earn with 6 more games.

Welcome to the Gotchiverse

The Gotchiverse is the metaverse inside which all Aavegotchi action takes place.

Three main areas comprise the Gotchiverse and these are:

  • The Citaadel: This is a home base for Gotchis within the Gotchiverse. A special forcefield rings The Citaadel to keep out the enemy Lickquidators. Players can build within The Citaadel on their REALM parcels. The Aarena is located within The Citaadel. This is where Gotchis can battle one another to hone their skills before The Great Battle.
  • The Grid: This Grid exists outside The Citaadel and players can build on their own parcels of land here. Land in the Grid contains much more Alchemica but Lickquidators also lurk throughout this yet-to-be-released area. Questing will be possible here too.
  • The Beyond: The Beyond is currently locked. But when it’s opened, more parcels of land will become available.

Within the Gotchiverse, you can own a parcel of virtual land. These are the REALM NFTs.

REALM parcels: own virtual land

Players can purchase their own real estate properties inside the Citadel in the Aavegotchi metaverse. The Citadel is divided into Districts, which are then divided by land plots called REALM.

REALM parcels are the lands that users can purchase as NFTs within Aavegotchi. They come in three separate sizes, and each costs a different amount:

  • Humble: 8×8 pixels that contain a small amount of the Gotchus Alchemica elements. Users can construct small buildings on these REALM parcels.
  • Reasonably Sized: 16×16 pixels and contain a medium amount of Gotchus Alchemica elements. Users can construct medium-sized buildings on these plots.
  • Spacious: 32×64 pixels land plots where users can construct huge buildings. Spacious plots also contain massive deposits of in-game tokens.

Players can buy adjacent plots of land and combine them to create mega-estates. From here, they can start building out their Aavegotchi empire.

As the game matures and more functionality is added, there’s a possibility that big landholders will be able to build their own ecosystem with the wider game.

Different game guilds usually dominate certain districts – so keep that in mind when you’re house-hunting.

Aavegotchi’s in-game tokens

There are plenty of tokens associated with the Aavegotchi. Let’s get to know them below.

GHST

GHST is the main in-game currency. Players need GHST to purchase anything inside the Gotchiverse.

Whether it’s Portals, wearables, consumables, or collectibles, you’ll need this token to do it. You can also stake your GHST to earn yield and use it to vote in the DAO. Users are also able to exchange GHST directly for fiat currency.

GHST Token Price view

At the time of writing, the GHST token price stood at $0.78. The all-time low registered was $0.496 in December 2020, and the all-time high reached $3.08 in November 2021.

GLTR

GLTR is how you buy ‘time’ in the Gotchiverse. It is used to speed up the building of installations and decorations. In the Gotchiverse, 1 GLTR = 1 Block on Polygon. You can also stake your GLTR.

The max supply of Glitter is 1,000,000,000,000 (1 Trillion) with a vested distribution for the next 30 years.

Gotchus Alchemica

Together, FUD, FOMO, ALPHA, KEK are called the Gotchus Alchemica and are the four elements that make up the Gotchiverse. Holders of these ERC20 tokens can combine them to craft Installations and Aesthetica, such as Tiles.

  • FUD: There is a total supply of 100,000,000,000 FOMO tokens. As the most prevalent token, FUD is also the least valuable. Saying this, it does have some worth. It can be used to purchase in-game assets. And it can be combined with other tokens to create useful items.
  • FOMO: with a total supply of 50,000,000,000 tokens, FOMO is the second-most common token in Aavegotchi. As with the other Gotchiverse elements, users can spend FOMO to create buildings.
  • ALPHA: There is a total supply of 25,000,000,000 ALPHA tokens. Players need to spend less Alpha to create buildings than they do FOMO and FUD.
  • KEK: There is a total supply of 10,000,000,000 KEK tokens, which makes it the most rare of the Gotchiverse elements.

Alchemica can be staked to earn GLTR, or users can farm their land inside the Gotchiverse. Here’s an example of how much of each token you can harvest from a digital property.

The Baazaar: Aavegotchi NFT Marketplace

Aavegotchi has its own native marketplace, called the Aavegotchi Baazaar. They launched it in February 2021 and made GHST the only viable currency. As it’s built on the Polygon network, transaction times are fast and fees are low.

You can visit the Aavegotchi marketplace to buy or rent Gotchis and REALM. When you’re there, you can also purchase:

  • Portals: you can use these to spawn new Aavegotchis.
  • Installations: special structures built on top of REALM parcels for farming and decoration.
  • Tiles and decorations: can be applied to REALM parcels for aesthetic purposes.
  • Equipment: you can add Equipment (wearables) to your Aavegotchi NFT to increase its rarity.
  • Raffle tickets: these give holders the chance to win a prize.
  • FAKEgotchis: Art NFTs created by the community.

How to earn from playing Aavegotchi?

As you play with your Gotchis and REALM, you will also be improving your NFTs’ rarity, therefore increasing their value. So you can either sell them for profit or rent them to other players. As you play and earn in-game tokens, you also have the possibility to profit from them. And let’s not forget the possibility of earning GLTR by staking your GHST and Alchemica tokens.

Who is on the Aavegotchi team?

Aavegotchi was brought to life in 2020 by the creative and forward-thinking minds at Pixelcraft Studios. This Singapore-based game-development company stands at the intersection of NFTs and DeFi, championing innovation and user engagement in the world of blockchain gaming.

A team of skilled coders and developers with a proven track record in the blockchain realm collaboratively steers the ship until today. Past projects by team members and advisors include CoinMarketCap, Alien Worlds, GWENT, Motorola, Aave, Ubisoft and Sega.

“Aave” comes from the Finnish word for ghost and “gotchi” from the popular 1990s digital pet Tamagotchi. Gotchis are imbued with a spirit force of staked ‘aTokens’ from the DeFi protocol Aave which allows them to earn yield.

What blockchain is Aavegotchi built on?

Aavegotchi was originally built on the Ethereum blockchain. This means the pixelated ghost NFTs conform to the ERC-721 standard.

In late 2021, however, Pixelcraft Studios moved its operations to the Polygon network. This means it’s still compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM) and transactions are still settled on the Layer1 Ethereum network.

On the other hand, day-to-day “business” activity is all carried out on Polygon. This network is known to be faster, less expensive and more sustainable than Ethereum. Aavegotchi’s move to Polygon has made its user experience much better.

2023 will see Aavegotchi moving to its own Polygon Super-net – Gotchichain. This dedicated blockchain will provide the ultimate user experience for all things Gotchi.
