Web3, based on distributed ledger technology, represents the decentralized network evolution of our current Web2 internet. Web3 embodies a vision of decentralization and empowering individuals. It uses blockchain technology to build decentralized applications (DApps), smart contracts, and Non-Fungible Tokens (NFTs), bringing new possibilities to many industries. This includes the integration of decentralized and traditional finance, leading to DeFi lending, liquidity mining, and more. Moreover, the combination of decentralized finance and gaming has introduced innovative concepts like Play-to-Earn.
Owing to the technical characteristics of blockchain, Web3 wallets become essential tools in our participation in Web3. Web3 wallets store the public and private keys for blockchain transactions. They provide us with a means to access funds, interact with decentralized applications and banks, collect NFTs, create on-chain identities, collaborate with communities, and offer more use cases beyond the scope of traditional wallets.
As Web3 continues to evolve and blockchain technology matures, concepts such as DeFi, GameFi, NFT, and SocialFi are emerging. On-chain activities are becoming more diverse, offering investors more opportunities and a richer decentralized experience. Due to the cryptographic nature of blockchain, participation in on-chain activities must be conducted through on-chain wallets (i.e., Web3 wallets), and related on-chain data and assets are also bound to these wallets.
Web3 wallets can be categorized based on whether the private key is personally held, into decentralized and centralized wallets. Decentralized wallets can be further divided into cold and hot wallets based on their connectivity to the internet. Cold wallets vary in their storage mediums, including hardware wallets and paper wallets, while hot wallets can be differentiated by the tools used for connectivity, such as mobile wallets and web wallets. Additionally, crypto wallets can be classified according to various other types, such as the public chain ecosystem and custodial or non-custodial services.
Similar to the diversified development of wallets, a variety of Web3 decentralized applications (dApps) are continuously emerging, which can easily overwhelm newcomers to Web3. Moreover, the functionalities of Web3 dApps are often incomplete. For instance, users might need to conduct crypto transactions on Uniswap, cross-chain to GMX for derivatives trading, and visit platforms like Opensea or Blur for NFT purchases. This complexity in interactions and on-chain operations raises the barrier to entry in Web3 and leads to poor user experience.

Gate Web3 Wallet, developed independently by Gate.io, is a secure and efficient non-custodial cryptocurrency wallet catering to the needs of Web 3.0 users for anytime, anywhere crypto transactions. It truly integrates the Web 3.0 lifestyle into daily life. Unlike typical Web3 wallets, the Gate Web3 Wallet breaks the limitations of single-asset or single-chain wallets, evolving into a multi-chain, multi-asset wallet. It has grown from a simple transfer and receipt tool into a blockchain ecosystem aggregation service platform. With a single click to connect the wallet plugin, users can interact with different blockchain ecosystems, and all ecosystem token assets are displayed on one page, making it clearer and more intuitive and preventing any oversight.
Through its rich Web3 services and innovative wallet services, users can enjoy most of the Web3 experiences in a one-stop manner with the Gate Web3 Wallet.
This article will demonstrate how to utilize the Gate Web3 Wallet to engage in various Web3 experiences, using the PC interface of the Gate Web3 service.
Before starting, it’s essential to set up a Web3 Wallet. We recommend using the Gate Wallet. As a key to unlocking the Web3 world, the Gate Web3 Wallet boasts several excellent features:
Multiplatform (source: https://www.gate.io/mobileapp)
You can download the Wallet APP directly by clicking the white button in the [Gate Web3 User Interface] image, or visit https://www.gate.io/mobileapp for downloading. Since this article demonstrates using a PC, we will focus on the Chrome plugin version, which requires installation via the official download link.
(1) Click [Add to Chrome] to add the extension to your browser.
(2) Once installed, a Gate Wallet icon will appear in the extensions section, as shown in image ①, accompanied by a successful installation notification. For future use, you can directly click the icon or find the Gate Wallet extension under the extensions list, marked as ②.
(3) After installation, clicking the extension will display an interface, as shown in the left image below, where users can choose to import an existing wallet or create a new blockchain wallet. If importing an existing wallet, click [Import Wallet] and use the mnemonic phrase, private key, or KeyStore, as shown in the right image below.
To register a new Gate Wallet, click [Create a new wallet]. You’ll need to confirm a wallet password, as shown in the left image below. This password is only for accessing the wallet, and if forgotten, it can be reset by re-entering the mnemonic phrase or private key. You can set different access passwords on different devices. Once set, you’ll enter the Gate Wallet interface, where the system will prompt you to back up your wallet, as shown in the right image below. This is crucial as losing your device, uninstalling the app, or deleting app data will result in permanent loss of the wallet and no recovery option.
In addition to mnemonic phrase backup, Gate also offers a cloud backup service.
Once the backup is complete, your wallet registration is successful. You can now start exploring the various functionalities of the wallet and choose the appropriate network to transfer your Tokens and NFTs.
Return to the Gate Web3 interface and click on the blue button [Connect Wallet] either at position ① or ②. In the pop-up, select [Gate Wallet] at ③, then click [Connect Wallet] at ④. The Gate Wallet will automatically display a connection request as shown in image ⑤. Simply click [Connect] at ⑥ to complete the connection.
Note: By selecting [others] next to ③, you can also connect with other wallets, which will not be elaborated here.
Gate Web3 User Interface (Source: https://www.gate.io/web3)
Once the wallet is connected, click on [Wallet Center] at the top to enter the wallet’s data dashboard. Here, you can click on [Token] and [NFT] to view the Token and NFT assets in your wallet. Clicking on [Assets] takes you to a page as shown below, offering a panoramic display of your assets across different public blockchains and their changes, which helps in understanding your wallet’s asset situation.
As shown in the image, there are three buttons in the top right corner: [Receive], [Send], and [History], each representing different functions:
On the Web interface, click [Trade] at ① or visit https://www.gate.io/web3/dextrade to enter the spot trading page.
On the page, as shown below, ② displays basic token information. You can search for the token you wish to trade at ③. After selecting the appropriate token, click on the trading pair in area ④ to trade. Note that Gate Trade’s trading pool is decentralized and does not offer as diverse a range as the Gate exchange, so choose trading pairs with liquidity. For instance, enter the amount of WETH you want to exchange, and the system will automatically quote the amount of JOE you will get. Click [SWAP] to exchange. Before exchanging, it’s advised to check ⑤ for your slippage and transaction fee information. Gate Trade also provides a smart contract risk awareness button at ⑥ and more basic token information. Next to ⑥ on the left, [Pool Information] introduces different liquidity sources for Tokens, and recent on-chain transaction orders can be seen in the lower left corner at ⑦.
As shown in the image below, click the [SWAP] button at ① to enter the cross-chain transaction page or visit https://www.gate.io/web3/swap/.
After entering the page, start cross-chain trading by searching for the Token name or contract address in the search box at ②. Clicking ③ displays the same-chain Token trading, similar to the [Spot Trading] mentioned above. Simply select the public chain, enter the trading Token and quantity, and click [Swap] to trade. ④ and ⑤ represent two different types of cross-chain transactions. ④ allows trading different Tokens on different public chains, while ⑤ is for trading the same Token on different chains, with the former offering more functionality.
After clicking ④ to enter the cross-chain trading interface, you can choose your public chain, the asset you want to cross-chain, and the destination chain asset. The system automatically selects an appropriate cross-chain path, as shown in ⑥, and provides you with a quote and network fee estimate. For example, on October 31, exchanging 1000USDC on the BSC chain for WETH on the Polygon chain could yield 0.547887 units, with an approximate network fee of $1.21. This cross-chain process involves converting USDC to USDT via PANCAKESWAP_V2, then bridging it to USDC on Polygon via stargate, and finally exchanging USDC for WETH in the Uniswap V3 pool on Polygon.
In addition to decentralized spot trading, Gate Web3 also offers futures (contract) trading connected to wallets. Aside from the need to connect a wallet, the overall interface is similar to that of exchange futures. Clicking on [Futures] at ① in the image takes you to the futures interface, where you can select [Main Network] for real trading or [Test Network] for entering the testnet.
As shown in the above image, clicking on ② allows for switching between currencies. The central K-line chart and Order Book display market trends and trade orders. When placing an order, users need to select their leverage multiple at ③ and choose the order type below. Gate futures offer both limit order and market order trading. Wallet authentication is required before official trading. Following the steps shown in the image, including:
The order placement button will appear. Upon clicking to place an order, the entrusted and executed orders will be displayed at ⑤ in the image.
Gate Web3 Earn is an aggregation platform for earning and staking. Here, you can easily stake your assets and earn passive income. Access it by clicking on Earn in the Gate Web3 interface or by visiting https://www.gate.io/web3/earn.
The earning strategies under [Top Project] in the above image are single-token strategies, meaning users can stake one type of token to earn profits. For instance, staking USDT on Arbitrum could yield an annual return of approximately 4.79%, with $983.81K assets already staked as of October 23, 2023.
Beyond single-token earning, sliding down the [Earn] page reveals multi-token earning and fixed income options. [Multiple Crypto] involves multiple token strategies where users can deposit various tokens as LP into liquidity pools to earn transaction fee income and liquidity incentives. For example, depositing a proportionally-composed LP of DAI/USDC/USDT can yield around 2.96% annual return, along with CRV token rewards. [Fixed-Rate] refers to fixed income, where users can deposit assets for a fixed period to earn a set interest rate. For instance, depositing stETH in Gate Earn until December 26, 2024, would yield an annual return of 3.93%, a strategy from the fixed income protocol Pendle.
To invest, users simply click [Invest], enter the desired staking amount, and click [invest] to complete the process. If your preferred token-earning strategy isn’t displayed, you can use the [Search] box to find it.
Access NFT trading by clicking on the [NFT] button on the Web3 page or by visiting https://www.gate.io/web3/nft. Once there, you can search for desired NFT collections using the search button in the top right corner or select based on trading volume rankings on the homepage. Click [Explore NFTs] to discover 1.54 million NFT works.
After selecting a preferred NFT collection, click on its logo or name to view its details. To purchase, simply click on the desired NFT, then [Buy], agree with the wallet signature, and pay to complete the purchase.
Access various DApps by clicking on the [DApps] button at ① in the Web3 page or by visiting https://www.gate.io/web3/dapps. Here, you can find various DApps and use them by connecting with Gate Wallet.
As shown in the image, users can find their desired DApp at ② and filter them based on criteria like public chain and DApp type. Common filters include the public chain, DApp category, and sorting by metrics like UAW (active wallets interacting with DApps), Transaction (number of transactions), and Volume.
Gate’s launch section is divided into two core parts: Startups exclusive airdrop events and Web3 airdrop tasks.
Access these by clicking [Launch] under [Startups] on the Web3 page or directly via https://www.gate.io/web3/startup. Follow the steps shown at ③ to participate.
Participation steps usually include:
Participants will receive token distributions via a lottery, with higher wallet assets increasing the chances of receiving an airdrop.
Many projects reward early participants, especially those actively interacting, like the famous Layer 1 blockchains Aptos and Sui, and Layer 2 blockchains Optimism and Arbtrium.
Gate has designed various interaction schemes to increase users’ chances of receiving project airdrops. Follow the steps or use the search function at ④ to find more airdrop tasks.
The image shows the zkSync Era interaction interface. Click the blue [go] button to start participating.
