Adobe’s Plans For the Metaverse

18 April 17:06

Adobe is a globally renowned multinational company that majors in different software for creating and publicizing several contents like graphics, photography, drawings, animation, multimedia/video, motion images, and print.

Adobe software include Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat Reader, etc., and two SaaS called Adobe Creative Cloud and Adobe Experience Cloud.

During the Adobe Summit 2022, the company announced that they'd be venturing into the Metaverse space via a whitepaper.

The Metaverse is a 3D digital space where you can interact with others, just like in the real world.

Adobe has set a 3-point plan to help them in their Metaverse quest: creating 3D content; improving virtual commerce through AR/VR means; portability of virtual personalities.

Without a doubt, the Metaverse is one of the next-gen advancements of the internet. It combines VR (virtual reality) and features of blockchain technology such as crypto and NFT.

Since the Metaverse deals with a virtual world, its concept might seem distant or, better yet, abstract for many.

To that end, let's look at what the Metaverse entails.

What is the Metaverse?

The Metaverse can be described as a virtual space akin to a 3D version of the internet where you can have a digital existence.

Here, you can interact with other people, meet friends, play games, conduct business, etc. Generally, the Metaverse provides a virtual environment for social connection.

Although it is not a new concept as it has been in the works for about 30 years now, the Metaverse, in reality, is the next yet advanced version of the internet, only that this time it is virtual. Hence, it combines several next-gen techs such as Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR), machine learning, blockchain technology, and artificial intelligence.

Understandably, every tech company wants to get a piece of this next-level digital pie, and this is because it can signify a significant shift in the digital space.

What is Adobe?

Adobe Inc. is an American multinational software company. It is renowned for creating and publicizing several contents like graphics, photography, drawings, animation, multimedia/video, motion images, and print.

Adobe has a variety of software that handle audio-visual content creation, editing, and publishing. They are;

Adobe Photoshop - For editing images.
Adobe Illustrator - For editing vector graphics (points, lines, curves) images.
Adobe Acrobat - For viewing, creating, and revising PDF files.
Adobe Flash - For producing animations, videos, mobile games, and apps.
Adobe Premiere Pro - For editing videos.
Adobe Connect - For aiding eLearning.
Adobe Creative Cloud - A SaaS for graphic design, video editing, photography, and mobile applications which subscribers can access.

By and large, Adobe is a globally distinguished software company. Founded about 40 years ago, it has grown into the leading software editing company. It employs over 20,000 worldwide in different cities and has a gross revenue of more than 12 billion USD.

But that's not enough, at least not in today's forward-thinking ecosystem.

Every person and company is tilting towards the future of tech. And very few things point towards that than the Metaverse.

Hence, Adobe’s foray into the Metaverse.

What is Adobe’s Plan For the Metaverse?

Adobe held its annual Adobe Summit between March 15 and 17, 2022. And this year, like the last two, it was an online event due to the ongoing pandemic. In it, they released the “Adobe Metaverse White Paper,” which detailed their plans to enable customers to create in a 3D virtual space.

Adobe intends to make more headway digitally while building on the current tech platforms it supports, such as Adobe Creative Cloud and Adobe Experience Cloud.

The former is a SaaS that houses software for their creative endeavors, which subscribers can utilize. At the same time, the latter is another SaaS containing a collection of advertising products hosted on Amazon Web Services.

They formulated a 3-point plan to describe their Metaverse agenda vividly. Let's take a look at them:

· Creating 3D content
Adobe plays a leading role in many profound experiences today like interaction, business, education, relaxation, etc., with their software like Substance 3D and Aero.

Substance 3D enables you to create, design, or sample 3D art utilizing high-end apps and tools to save it offline, disseminate it online, or AR.

Aero is a potent AR tool used to build and share experiences effortlessly and quickly. It doesn't require a complex skillset, just an imaginative mindset that can aid in editing.

They are both next-gen software and will make the content they create sophisticated.

· Enhancing virtual commerce through AR/VR means
Every company thrives on some form of content, be it a design or a picture. Consequently, Adobe is in business with many top corporations to enrich their digital and e-commerce capabilities.

Adobe works with these companies to provide an opportunity for them to enter the Metaverse and create an excellent experience that allows their users to purchase products virtually.

Recently, Coca-Cola announced the launch of a virtual drink, “Zero Sugar Byte,” in the Metaverse. Coca-cola uses Adobe Creative Cloud apps for the designs of their brand.

Also, Amazon uses Adobe Substance 3D tech for a one-time preview of their products to their customers.

· Portability of virtual personalities
Adobe enables brands to provide personalized digital experiences via products to their clients in the real world. They also allow them to export these assets in the virtual world.

Furthermore, Adobe is working toward allowing users in the Metaverse to design their distinct digital personas.

For example, Adobe’s Behance social network is initiating backing for the Polygon cryptocurrency platform so that customers can more effortlessly show related NFTs.

Through this, artists can utilize Polygon to put their minted NFTs on OpenSea,
show related images on Behance, and guide probable audiences to buy.

Conclusion

Adobe is a pillar of the creative community, and rightfully so, as evidenced by its longevity and excellence.

Now, they are breaking new ground by going into the Metaverse. They are creating next-gen tools, are partnering with prominent businesses Coca-Cola, Amazon, Fortnite, etc., and are creating virtual identities for their users.

Once again, Adobe is changing the game with creativity, one product at a time.
