NFT Worlds to Make Minecraft a decentralized Metaverse game

28 March 13:59

Minecraft is a 3D sandbox-style video game created in 2011 by Markus Notch Person and developed by Mojang studios which Microsoft later acquired in 2014 for a whopping $2.5 billion. The game after that grew by over 100 million active users( from 131 million active users to 141 active users in 2021) and counting.

The game world consists of an infinite space with coarse 3D objects mined and used for building structures, complex systems, and experiences(objects are in the form of cubes and fluids). The players have no limitation to what they can build; however, they are restricted to a barrier that prevents them from traversing to locations beyond 30,000,000 blocks from the center.

According to a Wikipedia source, the game was described as the most-played video game by a count of 738 million players as of April 2021.- A good ground for NFT Worlds’ interest in Minecraft.

In this article, we will explore why NFT worlds is adopting Minecraft and the expected outcome.

NFT Worlds Is Unrelated To Microsoft

It is good to establish that although NFT Worlds is receiving web3 updates through NFT worlds developers, Minecraft and Microsoft are unaffiliated with the NFT Worlds. Nonetheless, Microsoft, the developer company, has not stopped them from effecting updates in the game space. This comes with many risks for the co-founders considering that Microsoft could take control of the whole project with legal action should they wish to.

The NFT world finds Minecraft a perfect choice as the game is already has a thriving user base and because Microsoft is more developer-friendly than certain of their competitors, e.g., Roblox. NFT worlds' team plans to make the game frictionless and less costly ( in terms of gas fees) and with a global auction to serve as an online marketplace.

As of January 16, the cheapest NFT Worlds was 3.7 eth. In December of the previous year, Adam Hollander bought an NFT Worlds For 0.18 Eth, and in February, he purchased another at 6.5 Eth. The current floor price for any NFT from the collection is about 14.5 eth now. These NFTs will grant players the Metaverse experience in a game, which is likely to draw the attention of both Minecraft fans and NFT collectors alike. It combines the two most sought-after themes for technology investors: web3 and the metaverse.

NFT Worlds are larger than properties in sandbox games and decentraland; Arkdev expressed his concern on Twitter.

Although Microsoft has not expressed disapproval in the ongoing project by NFT Worlds, the Redmond-based billion-dollar tech corporation has not given full approval either. The founders of NFT Worlds keep close contact with Microsoft representatives to ensure they don't violate Minecraft's END USER LICENSE AGREEMENT (EULA) at any stage of the project's development. Lastly, Microsoft appears to be in support of the Metaverse and willing to enter the virtual space if their $68.7 billion deal for the purchase of Activision Blizzard, which they tagged as "a step towards gaining a foothold in the metaverse," Is to be taken as anything.

NFT Worlds’ Contribution Explained.

The decentralized and cross-platform play-to-earn metaverse world consists of 10,000 unique NFT Worlds that are constantly evolving and modified by world owners or individual communities.

Each piece is so large that a player cannot get across without some form of transportation or portal system. Arkdev, co-founder of NFT worlds' expressed his concern on Twitter, which would hinder players from seeing or traversing the whole terrain, he said. All of this is created on a polygon-based overlay (an Ethereum side-chain with lower transaction cost/fees), allowing users to perform transactions with little or no gas fees. And will grant users access to web3 features such as online shops where they can buy items for the game using WRLD token ($WRLD). Players will be able to purchase assets in the game using cryptocurrencies. Some of the software used in creating Minecraft is available to anyone who has the technical know-how to build on it.

NFT Worlds simply brings Web3 on this concept by integrating the Minecraft world into resaleable tokens and introducing its cryptocurrency called $ WRLD on top of everything.

In conclusion, as Temptranquil, co-founder of NFT Worlds, said, NFT Worlds Is probably the best update for Minecraft as a transition into web 3, and Microsoft is most likely aware of that too.
