On January 1, 2024, Bitcoin developer Jimmy Song tweeted criticizing the Ordinals protocol, stating that it was a Altcoin scam based on Bitcoin's popularity and claiming that it used Bitcoin to obtain a trusted identity.

He pointed out that the reason why Ordinals and BRC-20 protocols have become popular is because Bitcoin can avoid the reputation of "shitcoin" compared to tokens issued on <a href="/price/ethereum-eth" target="_blank" class="blog_inner_link">Ethereum</a> or <a href="/price/solana-sol" target="_blank" class="blog_inner_link">Solana</a>. Song believes that by dissecting various aspects of the Ordinals movement, one can discover a similar "sell up" nature to Altcoin, which focuses on token selling and speculation rather than promoting the mission of Bitcoin's economic freedom.

Meanwhile, he urged the community to distinguish between Bitcoin and the holders of these fraudulent tokens, and mercilessly expose their fraudulent behavior. ##Who is Jimmy Song?
Jimmy Song - Co founder of <a href="/price/decred-dcr" target="_blank" class="blog_inner_link">Decred</a>/DCR Coin, core developer of Bitcoin, and partner at Blockchain Capital LLC.

Song is a programmer with 20 years of experience and is very active in the Bitcoin field. He is an editor at Bitcoin Techtalk and also a blogger at Media. He has contributed to the Bitcoin core and other Bitcoin projects, and is an open-source contributor to many different Bitcoin projects. He is also the author of O'Reilly's "Programming Bitcoin," "Little Bitcoin Book," "Thank God for Bitcoin," and "Bitcoin and the American Dream."

He is the former Vice President of Engineering at the Bitcoin Wallet Armory, and for most of his career, Song worked as a software developer at multiple companies in various fields such as entertainment, healthcare, and e-commerce.

In 2014, he joined Monetas and led the development of Bitcoin integration through open transactions for almost a year. After managing the development of a commercially friendly Bitcoin wallet for Armory Technologies, he became the chief architect of Paxos, creating blockchain solutions for institutional entities.

However, there are also some people who oppose Ordinals, mainly concerned that it will make the Bitcoin network more complex and may affect the stability and security of its core functions as a currency. For example, some Bitcoin geeks (maxims) are concerned that the use of Ordinals may lead to transaction congestion and fee increases.

"They just reused the names of real projects before Bitcoin, they just bought a name to issue a foolish project.” Therefore, it is not something we must accept.

"Ordinals transactions are scams without spam. In_script_ion transactions are spam and scams, objectively the worst," Giacomo Zucco said in a recent related statement.
