Brave Browser, Brave Rewards,Basic Attention Token Explained

13 April 17:42

Imagine earning a reward for each time you viewed ads on your internet browser? Yes! Rewards as in crypto tokens. Brave browser is doing this by rewarding its users with BAT Token each time they surf the internet.

The Brave browser was released in 2019 by Brave Software Inc. as an ad-blocking and privacy protection browser. Since its release in 2019, Brave currently has 54 million monthly active users and 16 million daily active users.

On Brave Browser, there are different features such a:

· Brave Firewall + VPN which runs exclusively on iOS devices.

· Brave Search serves as the default search engine for the browser.

· Brave Wallet is pre-installed in the desktop browser. It supports Ethereum sidechains and can store NFTs.

· Brave Swap can be used to exchange Ethereum tokens in the browser.

One of the greatest features of Brave Browser is the Basic Attention Token (BAT). The token that is a derivative of Brave Rewards is earned from browsing the internet and can be used to tip content creators who publish on Brave. According to its whitepaper, BAT Token was created to compensate the browser's users for attention while protecting their privacy.

Is Brave Browser Safe?

Being a new browser that came with a lot of promise, Brave attracted mixed reactions from experts and stakeholders in the tech industry. The idea that Brave browser came up with was innovative as well as a huge disruptor in the tech space. In a report by Enders Analysis in 2016, it was noted that ads account for between 18%-79% of mobile data usage. Another problem Brave sought to solve was the lack of privacy protection for browser users. These issues pitted the Brave Browser against giants in the tech space with major tech blogs terming the platform as "controversial."

However, with increasing usage, the Brave browser is steadily gaining a reputation as one of the safest browsers available. The browser handles user security with a privacy-first approach because privacy and security go hand-in-hand. Unlike most browsers that trade-off security and privacy with speed and convenience, Brave browser's default settings blocks trackers, malware, and online ads.

Apart from offering security from malicious websites, the browser also offers BAT tokens as rewards for every ad a user chooses to view. Brave also initiated a system that allows publishers to receive anonymous tips from users in Bitcoin.

What to Know About BAT Token

Imagine a system that gives the proper remuneration to publishers, users, and advertisers based on a proper assessment of user attention. For the browser users, Brave proposes a share of the earned tokens earned from advertising. They propose improved revenue and better reporting to the publishers, they also propose less expensive customer attention to the advertisers.

As blockchain technology becomes more popular for creating more efficient systems, its usefulness in ad-tech is also being explored. The brave browser in their bid to improve the system of online advertising implemented the BAT Token.

The BAT token is an ERC-20 token built on the Ethereum network, it is the in-house currency on the Brave browser. BAT will serve as the payment system for publishers. Each publisher receives payment in BAT based on automated calculations of user attention carried by the browser. Users will also receive BAT tokens as their stake in the advertising economy.

Brave Rewards is the feature that allows Brave browser users to receive BAT in their Brave Wallet. The feature also allows users to donate BAT to their favorite publishers or content creators. Since the launch of Brave in 2019, over 1.6 million creators now accept donations in BAT. You can swap the token for other tokens supported by the Brave wallet. The BAT token can be used to buy NFTs, and make in-app purchases on web3 DApps.

Brave Wallet is the storage medium for BAT tokens, and unlike most crypto wallets that are browser extensions, Brave wallet is native to the browser. The Brave wallet cannot be gotten as a browser extension on a third-party browser. One of the features of the brave wallet is that you can buy and swap ERC-20 tokens in the wallet. Other features include live market data provided by CoinGecko, and it was built with an open license. For more questions about the Brave Wallet, check here.
