On January 20th, according to Bloomberg, the lobbying army that has long been active in Congress and federal agencies is now setting its sights on a new target: a shadow federal department controlled by Musk. This Musk-led initiative is called the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE for short), and its purpose is to provide advice to President-elect Trump on reducing expenses and regulatory reform. So far, its members have been organizing and coordinating in secret meetings in the vicinity of the White House. Companies and industry groups have started to shift their focus to DOGE, rather than traditional congressional committees and federal agencies, in order to advance their agendas and protect their interests. The urgency to establish contact with Musk's team highlights how special interest groups see the billionaire as a shortcut to Trump, a way to prioritize their issues. It also indicates that an entity seemingly aimed at breaking the traditional political mold is rapidly becoming the target of Washington's seasoned lobbying organizations.
