Amazon hits the Metaverse with a 3D game

15 April 22:56

Amazon has launched its own video game in the Metaverse. The game is an interactive, economic, and sales approach to educating students on the practicality of abstract terms in cloud computing. In addition, the company plans to create more awareness about its AWS( Amazon Web Service) and its investments in Cloud Computing.

Like other video games, the game has puzzles and simulations where you interact with a virtual city and solve cloud computing problems.
With this recent development, there is hope that Amazon might also begin to trade in NFTs and cryptocurrencies.

Metaverse is an online, persistent universe made up of different virtual worlds in one place. It can be considered a future version of the Internet. Users will be able to work, meet, play, and socialize together in these 3D spaces in the Metaverse.

Although the Metaverse doesn't exist entirely, some platforms contain similar elements. The closest thing to the Metaverse today is video games. Through in-game events and virtual economies, developers have pushed the limits of what a game can be.

Technology giants are leading the way into the future. One of such giants is Amazon.

Amazon is a multinational technology company focused on e-commerce, cloud computing, digital streaming, and artificial intelligence. As one of the world's most valuable brands, it has been described as "one of the world's most influential economic and cultural forces." The company is one of the Big Five American technology companies, along with Alphabet, Apple, Meta, and Microsoft.

On July 5, 1994, Jeff Bezos started Amazon in his garage in Bellevue, Washington. Originally a book marketplace, it has expanded into a wide range of products: earning the nickname The Everything Store. In addition, Amazon Web Services offers cloud computing, Zoox offers autonomous vehicles, Kuiper Systems provides Internet via satellite, and Amazon Lab126 provides hardware research and development.

The company also has subsidiaries like Ring, Twitch, and IMDb. In August 2017, it acquired Whole Foods for US$13.4 billion, significantly increasing its footprint as a physical retailer.

As part of the new service, Amazon has created a 3D web game where players move through a virtual city while solving real-life problems through the cloud. It is a sales tool and an educational tool to teach people how to use its cloud services. This is the first attempt of Amazon to invest in the Metaverse.

The new game is a strategy to boost AWS (Amazon Web Services). AWS is globally recognized as the most adopted cloud platform. However, according to developers, the decentralized services are far from decentralized as AWS is used for storage. In addition, investors and companies have raised questions about the meaning of decentralization as it was discovered that AWS could boot a company of its servers.
With the game, Amazon tries to boost its web services.

The Game

The title of the game is AWS Cloud Question. The modus operandi is very straightforward and understandable. Players navigate through the virtual city while helping the residents solve cloud-related IT issues. Players earn points and rewards for completing the tasks and puzzles. The game's main goal is to create more awareness of Amazon's cloud services.

According to the director of Professional Cloud Education Programs at Amazon, Kevin Kelly, the AWS Cloud Quest, and AWS Educate drifted away from passive content. Instead, they had to find a way to make the intangible aspects of cloud computing relatable and easily communicated through interactive activities. This method allows students to readily relate the theoretical aspects of cloud computing to practical applications.

As players continue through the various levels and pass puzzles and simulations, they unlock new character styles and content. But, again, this is similar to other video games.

Amazon and Crypto

There have been theories predicting that Amazon will soon be involved in cryptocurrencies. The management and board of the company have also not ruled this out.

With Amazon putting up investment in the Metaverse, this can be a stepping block to them offering their own set of NFT collections and cryptocurrency.
