Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk made a takeover offer to Twitter today, in order to acquire it in the form of cash of $54.20 per share, with an overall valuation of approximately $43.4 billion.

Musk also expressed his thoughts on its acquisition offer. The full text is as follows:

I invested in Twitter because I believe it now has the potential to become a global platform for freedom of speech, and I believe that freedom of speech is a social responsibility for a functioning democracy.

However, since I invested in Twitter, I now realize that under the current situation, Twitter will neither prosper nor meet the needs of society. Twitter needs to be transformed into a private company.

Therefore, I propose to buy 100% of Twitter shares in the form of cash of $54.20 per share, which is 54% higher than the day before I started investing in Twitter and 38% higher than the day before I publicly announced my investment news. My quotation is the best and final price I can give. If this price is not accepted in the end, I will reconsider my position as a shareholder.
