How to get a job in Web 3.0

01 February 10:27

[TL;DR]
Search and apply in Web 3.0 Job Portals
Most popular ones:
CryptocurrencyJobs
CryptoJobsList
Web3.Career
Pomp
Crypto.Jobs
LaborX (Mostly freelance work)
AngelList (Mostly freelance work)

Join a DAO
1.Find a DAO project you’re truly interested in.

2.Browse deeply around their websites to find job positions. If they’re not there-

3.Join the DAO’s Discord or Telegram communities, ask around about different job positions and possibly contact a community admin about your interest in working for them.

Look for companies working on Web 3.0
Check traditional job portals for companies that have a Web 3.0 department, but be aware that virtually all open positions will revolve around computer science and software engineering.

Create your résumé and cover letter accordingly
Web 3.0 organizations and crypto projects are usually led by young, non-traditional workers. It’s good practice to adapt your résumé and cover letter according to which company style you’re applying so your application doesn’t look out of place and offbeat.
With the countless cryptocurrencies, blockchain applications and companies adopting decentralized technologies in the past few years, it’s pretty clear by now that Web 3.0 is here to stay. It should also be clear that, with new frontiers being crossed in the digital sphere, new opportunities surface as well - whether it’s for new businesses, ways to implement the technology or, in this case, jobs.

To stay ahead of the times, a lot of professionals from various fields are looking into joining this new workforce ecosystem. With that in mind, this article summarizes the best ways to get a job in Web 3.0.

Keep your eyes on Web 3.0 job portals
Since the concept of Web 3.0 revolves around user-built systems and decentralization, it should be of no surprise that most of the currently available jobs in “Web3” are related to cryptocurrencies. Those on the look out interesting in taking part on these ambitious projects can look no further than Cryptocurrency and Web 3.0 job portals.

Much like any other job portal, those related to Web 3.0 filter job offers from several different projects and companies into one platform. There, they can search and apply to the positions that are the most fitting to a specific career.

Here are the most popular Web 3.0 job portals currently being used, in order of popularity:
CryptocurrencyJobs
CryptoJobsList
Web3.Career
Pomp
Crypto.Jobs
LaborX (Mostly freelance work)
AngelList (Mostly freelance work)

Join a DAO
Decentralized Autonomous Organizations, or DAOs, have a fundamental concept of Web 3.0 in their title: decentralization. These mostly-crypto projects are created without a fixed hierarchy of power; new tasks and updates are decided through voting systems by those who work in the DAO and also by holders of the crypto, who can use their holdings to vote on which developments they agree or disagree with.

Compared to Web 3.0 job portals, finding a DAO job is much trickier. It involves thorough research into different projects that the worker is interested in, as most DAOs don’t publicize their job openings so such information can be quite hard to find. It also requires interaction with the community, which can take days and sometimes weeks of effort until they offer a glimpse of what opportunities are available.

But all is not lost, as there are a few basic things to look out for when getting a DAO job.

1.Find an interesting project where there seems to be a lot of room for growth, serious developers and the community is quite active.
2.Look around their website(s) for any details about job openings. Dig deep as the right page might not be easy to find. There’s also a very good chance that there won’t be any information there, but not to worry!

3.Join the DAO’s Discord and/or Telegram. These two social media are the main platforms for communal crypto communication. There will be several sub-channels where those eager to work can join and ask questions about what positions are available, while also learning more about the project. Someone, most likely a community admin, will likely send you a file or a link with the details. If that also fails, contact one of them directly. Admins always have tags in their usernames, so they’re easy to identify.

Keep in mind: Most DAO jobs are as casual as casual can get. These organizations are completely decentralized, so there usually isn’t a fixed salary or hours, with workers completing separate tasks to slowly gain more momentum with the DAO until they’re assigned longer and more complex duties. It’s also not unusual to not get paid at all for the first few weeks, so be prepared to invest a lot of time in something that you are truly interested in.

Look for companies working on Web 3.0
A more traditional, and stable, approach is to look for established companies that are working in Web 3.0 technology. Platforms like Indeed and Seek can do the trick when using the keyphrase “Web 3.0,” but going into websites of familiar corporations involved in fintech will also reap results.

Keep in mind that these jobs will definitely be centered around computer science, software engineering and the likes of IT in general. While job positions in crypto organizations and DAOs are extremely diverse since they’re projects built on Web 3.0 itself, established companies will be looking for professionals to only develop their Web 3.0 R&D departments - meaning tech, and nothing but tech.

Create your résumé and cover letter accordingly
When looking for jobs in the Web 3.0 sphere, most will stumble upon organizations and companies that have a non-traditional approach to the work environment and the way employees interact with one another.

Since the companies will mostly consist of young professionals involved in tech and crypto’s disruptive asset class, it’s good practice to create résumés and cover letters that match the personality of that environment. A cover letter for a research analyst job in JPMorgan, for instance, should read vastly different than one for a Software Developer in a DeFi project.

With that in mind, always have different résumés and cover letter versions at hand depending on what time of company you are applying for.
