On June 9, Optimism announced on twitter that 20 million OPs have been controlled by hackers due to communication and technical errors in the cooperation with Wintermute, a cryptocurrency market maker.

At first, the Optimism foundation sent 20 million OPs to Wintermute for market making. Then Wintermute found that the receiving address provided by Optimism was the address of Layer 1. Before Wintermute transferred it to Layer2, the attacker had preemptively deployed it with different initialization parameters. Up to now, hackers have sold approximately 1 million stolen OPs.

In addition, according to the data on the Optimism chain, the hacker address of 20 million OP theft events officially announced by Optimism has also sent 1 million OPs to Vitalik Buterin’s wallet "0xd8dA6BF26964aF9D7eEd9e03E53415D37aA96045". So far, Vitalik Buterin has not responded to this matter.
