April 2013: Gate.io Founded
Gate.io founder, Han Lin, has a Ph.D. in optical science. In 2013, while he was working for a high-performance computing company, he came into contact with bitcoin mining for the first time. In the process of trading, Han Lin began to realize the need for a secure and reliable trading platform. July 2020, Chinese Brand Name Upgraded
Gate's Chinese brand name, Open Sesame, is derived from Alibaba and the Forty Thieves in the Arabian folk tale One Thousand and One Nights. It is not only the incantation of Alibaba to open the door to the treasure but also a household legendary story that is well-known all over the world. At the same time, the Chinese name of Gate.io is also derived from the advertising slogan - Your Gateway to Cryptocurrency. The official launch of the Chinese name aims to offer emotional support to Gate.io users in daily trades and community interactions, and let them find the surging consensus and identity approval by being with Gate.io.

September 2020, HipoSwap White Paper Released
As the core link of exchange/trade in the Gate DeFi ecosystem, HipoSwap is an automatic market maker (AMM) exchange protocol, which can automatically discover market prices without relying on price feeds from oracles. Furthermore, based on CPMM (Constant Product Market Maker), two single-currency market price Maker pools are introduced to provide Maker with market price pending orders and ways to earn fees while greatly increasing system liquidity and effectively reducing Taker's transaction price slippage.

May 2021, GateChain Mainnet Supports EVM
Gate.io started the construction of the smart contract ecosystem as early as 2020 and has experienced several milestone successes. In late May 2021, after the ongoing efforts of the R&D team, the mainnet stress test was successful, and the GateChain Mainnet officially supports EVM, including security, high performance, full compatibility with EVM, enabling G.T., high decentralization, asset cross-chain, and more key innovative features.
