The artist who blew up Lamborghini Huracan to make NFTs

    09 March 18:11

    [TL; DR]

    1. Shl0ms, a conceptual artist, has announced the release of his groundbreaking NFT collection, which was created by detonating a Lamborghini Huracan in an undisclosed desert, mainly to protest against greed and short-termism in crypto.

    2. The artist feels that cryptocurrencies should be used for positive purposes rather than a get-rich-quick scheme or a zero-sum game.

    3. The collection was named $CAR, and it yielded 999 Non-Fungible Tokens, with 999 slow-motion films created from each movement of each component following the explosion.

    4. 888 of the 999 NFTs created will be auctioned, with the remaining 111 going to the team and the initial investor.

    5. The NFTs were to be released on February 25, but due to recent events, they've been pushed back until March 4th.

A Lamborghini Huracan Was detonated to Create 999 NFTs.

SHL0MS, a US artist, detonated a 2015 Lamborghini Huracan to create 999 unique NFTs. The collection was named "$CAR," and it is linked to 999 slow-motion videos. Each of these 999 videos is connected to a single component and a unique code, making it a full-scale NFT.

After two weeks of testing, Shl0ms and his team of 100 people took the $250,000 2015 Lamborghini Huracan to a deserted location in the United States. The Team consisted of an anonymous investor and a federally licensed explosives engineer to ensure that each piece was "whole" and identifiable when the car was blown up.

The wreckage from the detonation was divided into 999 NFT projects, with 888 available for public auction and 111 reserved for the team and the initial investor. Each NFT will be released as a rotating video of each burned piece in 4k definition, with additional features and introductions.

Shl0ms and his team plan to use the Lamborghini NFT financial yields to build a "Decentralized Autonomous Organization (DAO) that will be more ethically driven rather than financially focused."

Shl0ms physically fractionalized the Lamborghini to express his displeasure with crypto's abuse. He further explained that the choice to destroy the Lamborghini represents a "more general condemnation of greed and short-termism in crypto" rather than a protest.

He also explained that a Lamborghini was chosen as the project's theme because it is a "powerful image of individuals simply engaging with crypto because it's a method for them to earn money from other people as rapidly as possible."

What is the worth of this new "999 Lamborghini NFT collection?"

SHL0MS is auctioning off the 999 NFTs from the blown-up Lamborghini Huracan in the hopes of recouping the cost of purchasing the destroyed car.

A similar Lamborghini with the same years and mileage as the chosen one is estimated to be worth roughly $230,000 in the United States.

To recoup its costs, SHL0MS would have to sell each NFT for more than $230 each, which could be attainable if the current prices of NFTs are considered, even the most common ones. Lamborghini has become the highlight of the new 999 NFT collection, thanks to Shl0ms. However, there are NFT collections developed directly by Lamborghini itself.

    Lamborghini's Space-Time Memory NFT project

The Italian manufacturing company Lamborghini announced its NFT project: Space-Time Memory in February. This collection of five NFT images showing a Lamborghini Ultimate blasting out into space and honoring human space exploration.

Fabian Oefner and his crew from Switzerland were the artists who built the compositions using real pieces by capturing over 1,500 unique bits of a real car. It took two months to put all of the photographs together in an artificial moment in time.

The auction for the 5 NFTs ended with prices that were higher than expected, starting at $50 and ending at $203,000, $126,000, $110,000, $70,000, and $150,000, respectively.

With these numbers, SHL0MS' mission may not be that far away, even if the Italian brand isn't directly involved with his project.

    Conclusion

Buyers will be able to bid on the 888 charred NFT pieces of the detonated Lamborghini Huracan on March 4th. As mentioned before, Its sale and demise are unrelated to or approved by Lamborghini or other Volkswagen Group companies. The burnt remains of the 2015 chrome-and-black Lamborghini will be available as NFTs for 24 hours on the Shl0ms website and must be purchased with wETH (wrapped ETH), a cryptocurrency that allows you to trade directly with Altcoins.
