What is Portfolio Margin Account?

Portfolio Margin Account is a new feature of Gate.io’s trading system, which breaks down the funds isolation across accounts within Classic Account and enables multi-currency margin sharing for different trading types. With margin sharing in the Portfolio Margin Account, users don't need to transfer funds back and forth across Spot, Margin, Futures and Options accounts, etc. Their profits and losses will be combined and offset each other, which improves capital efficiency.

Under the Portfolio Margin Account mode, spot margin trading,  USDT-M, BTC-M can be seen as parts of a whole, that is, the portfolio margin account. There is an overall account net balance, margin value, and maintenance margin requirements.

## How to activate Portfolio Margin Account？
### Step 1: Transfer assets from Classic Account to Portfolio Margin Account
Cross margin account has been upgraded to Portfolio Margin Account. Go to the “Wallet- Portfolio Margin Account” page. Click “Transfer” to transfer assets from “Spot Account” to “Portfolio Margin Account”. Select the coin and enter the amount, and then click “Confirm” to finish the transfer.

*To enable perpetual futures under the Portfolio Margin Account, risk level＞200% and total assets＞10000 USDT are required.

After the Portfolio Margin Account is activated, Spot margin trading, USDT-M, BTC-M Perpetual Futures can share margin and you can hedge risks on the level of the entire portfolio.

With shared margin in the Portfolio Margin Account, investors do not have to transfer assets for USDT-M, BTC-M Perpetual Futures. Assets in the Portfolio Margin Account can be used to open positions or as margin for these perpetual futures, whose balance and unrealized PNL can also be used as margin for margin trading.
### Step 2: Activate Portfolio Margin Account Mode
You can activate Portfolio Margin Account Mode on trading pages of Spot, USDT-M, and BTC-M Perpetual Futures, after which you can switch between Classic Account Mode and Portfolio Margin Account Mode.
