The Aeternity (AE) was hit by a blockchain rollback attack a few days ago, which has affected several mainstream exchanges. At Gate.io, our risk monitoring sy-stem detected the AE blockchain rollback at block height 353231 (2020-12-06 05:12:48 UTC+8)and gave an alarm . We consequently took immediate action to close the AE deposits and withdrawals and reported the issue to the AE team at the earliest time possible. The AE team also confirmed that this was a blockchain rollback attack. We kept communicating with the AE team and upgraded immediately as the AE team identified and solved the node issues. As the AE network is resumed to normal, we have also restored the AE deposits and withdrawals.
In the AE blockchain rollback attack event, many AE transactions deposited to or withdrawn from Gate.io were rolled back. For those transactions, we will handle them in the following ways:
1). For those invalid withdrawals, we will resend them. The AE network is now working properly and transactions will reach their destinations smoothly. If some of the transactions fail again, we will credit them back to users’ Gate.io account balance.
2) For those void deposits, we will invalid those transactions. As those transactions have returned to where they were sent, users can simply re-send them to their Gate.io account; if they were sent from a personal wallet, users can go to their personal wallet and send them back; if they were sent from another exchange, users can simply go to the exchange and ask them to resend.
